TGTSNBN is pleased to welcome guest lecturer Travis Prinzi, webmaster of the thehogshead.org and author of two books of essays on the Harry Potter series.

Travis has previously been on panels and given discussions at many major HP conventions including:

Prophecy 2007
Portus 2008
and most recently at Azkatraz 2009

His second book, Hog's Head Conversations: Essays on Harry Potter, Volume 1 has just become available on Amazon.com

For our Meetup, Mr. Prinzi has a special Halloween themed discussion for us:

Harry Potter, Dracula, and Frankenstein: Supernatural Fear and the Gothic in J.K. Rowling's Bestselling Novels

As the Harry Potter books progress, so do their dark and frightening elements. From Boggarts to Dementors to Horcruxes to dark rituals of blood, it's no wonder some grown-ups have been concerned that Harry Potter is too scary for children. But these elements of supernatural fear are essential to the story. Travis Prinzi takes a look at the frightening elements of the Harry Potter books, explains their history and place in the story, and unveils how the story's Gothic setting contributes to its message. We'll discover that it might just be a good thing to be scared by Harry!
